KnowraPrivacy Policy
Knowra is a language-learning app with an AI tutor. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and the control you have — including deleting your account at any time.
Who we are
Knowra is operated by BenDev (the “we”/“us” here). For any privacy question or request, contact [email protected].
What we collect
- Account data — your email address, a securely hashed password (we never store the plain password), the languages you speak and are learning, and your subscription status.
- On-device learning data — your conversations, saved words and review progress are stored locally on your device, not on our servers.
- Content you send to the AI — messages, looked-up words, uploaded photos and voice recordings you choose to send to the tutor are processed to generate a reply or transcription.
We do not collect advertising identifiers, we do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data.
How we use it
- To create and secure your account and sign you in.
- To provide the AI tutor, dictionary look-ups, pronunciation audio and voice transcription.
- To manage your subscription and prevent abuse.
Who we share it with (processors)
- Anthropic — messages, words and images you send to the tutor are processed by the Claude API to generate replies. See Anthropic’s privacy policy.
- Lemon Squeezy — our payment provider and Merchant of Record. When you subscribe, your payment details are handled by Lemon Squeezy; we never see your card number. They send us only your email and subscription status.
Voice transcription runs on our own server and audio is processed transiently to produce the transcript — it is not kept after transcription.
Cookies & local storage
Knowra uses only essential browser storage to make the app work — for example, keeping you signed in and remembering your settings. We do not use advertising or analytics cookies, and we do not track you across other websites. Because this storage is strictly necessary for the service, no cookie-consent banner is required.
How long we keep it
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. When you delete your account, your server-side record is erased and any active subscription is cancelled. On-device data is removed from your device at the same time.
Your rights & choices
- Delete your account — in the app, go to Profile → Danger zone → Delete my account. This permanently erases your account, cancels your subscription, and clears on-device data. See how account deletion works.
- Access or correct your data — your email and languages are editable in Profile; for anything else email us.
- If you are in the EU/EEA, you have rights under the GDPR (access, rectification, erasure, portability, objection). Email [email protected] to exercise them.
Children
Knowra is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from them.

We’ll update this page and the “last updated” date when this policy changes.
